"Bossy", the adjective, can be defined as being "fond of giving orders; domineering." In contrast, the word "boss" is defined, in the adjective form, as "excellent, outstanding." While the words are extremely similar, they have completely different definitions and uses, which are only applied to a certain group of people.

To look and address how the word bossy is used against women, we will look at five different classic internet memes to get a closer look. These memes are not particularly "up to date" in their format (in comparison to memes you'll see on Twitter), but they can still help understand the word.

In this meme, the word has been reclaimed for a more positive outlook. Choosing the word "boss" over "bossy" changes how people think of the actual action of being in charge.

This meme takes on the concept of a woman having a better idea and perspective than her male counterparts. When a woman expresses her ideas, it is seen as "bossy" and her ideas are not listened to nearly idea as the man's idea.

This famous quote from Amy Poehler also takes a positive spin on the word. Poehler states that her love for "bossy women" comes from the fact that they are passionate and ambitious. "Bossy women" take on the world, despite whether or not the world is created for it.

This meme does not only address the concept of "bossy", but also how women even suggest ideas. A common trope about women is that they are always right. This meme has that underlying message within it from the "suggestions without options" remark.
